CHP UPDATE: KaUN Campaign's Adventures of Nardang Niwang
In order to address the problem of malnutrition in Barangay Daniel C. Mantos, one of Team Sicpao's objectives is to increase the knowledge of the people regarding proper nutrition, in the form of health education and information dissemination. To make learning fun and interactive for children, the team performed a role play entitled "Adventures of Nardang Niwang". According to Ching Almonte, project head and creator of Adventures of Nardang Niwang, this activity aims to involve the target population in the learning process, focusing on topics such as basic food groups, importance of a balanced diet, and ill effects of junk food consumption.
The role play was performed by the team on two locations on separate days: Purok 1 daycare center and DCM elementary school. A total of 19 daycare students, 24 kinder students and 43 grade 1 students were in attendance, along with some of their parents. According to Ching,"We belive that our activity was a success because the children enjoyed the play and were able to interact and relate with the characters". She also adds that teaching children to practice proper food choices helps prevent malnutrition.
