CHP Update: 3B's Kontra Rabies - Mass Dog Vaccination

Last October 24, 2014, Team Sicpao, through the efforts of project heads Josephine Ivy Jumala and Edelyn Arguelles, and in coordination with the Municipal Agriculture Office of Mahayag, launched Bantay Iru 143 Campaign's 3B's Kontra Rabies: "Bakuna kay Bantay para sa ligtas na Barangay".

The mass dog vaccination, which aims to provide free vaccination against rabies to all dogs in Barangay DCM, took place in 3 different sites: Purok 3, Purok 5 and Sentro (Purok 1 &2), catering to dog-owners from all 7 puroks. With the help of Mr. Antipaz E. Colcol of the Municipal Agriculture Office, 131 dogs from all 7 puroks were vaccinated against rabies. All dogs that received the vaccines were also given tags that served as the team's registration and for their identification. These registered dogs shall be monitored by the team.

"A total of 131 dogs have been vaccinated, which is 59.8% of the total number of dogs in the barangay," according to Josephine Ivy Jumala, one of the project heads of Team Sicpao's Bantay Iru 143 Campaign.

Ms. Jumala adds that, "We have reached our goal for vaccination and registration, which is 50%, and our next step is to push for a yearly vaccination and emphasize responsible pet ownership, which is the root for change." She also said that an ordinance shall be needed to strengthen and sustain this project.

Given the massive support and participation given by the dog owners of Barangay DCM, as well as the strong and effective partnership with the Municipal Agriculture Office, there is no doubt that this project was a success, and shall pave way to more projects and campaigns that aspire to promote change and self-reliance in the barangay. This mass dog vaccination is the first of the many steps to be taken towards the campaign for responsible pet ownership.
