Sixty years ago, Barangay DCM was a virgin forest. Diverse animals inhabited in the area ranging from avian to mammalian taxonomies. The barangay had undergone major division and distribution of land areas to interested farmers. In 1940, the land was sub-divided into 10 hectares by Bureau of Lands conducted by Mr. Fabian.

During ocular survey, Mr. Fabian discovered a kaingin from a Subanen ethnicity named Andungos. Andungos informed the group that the place was called Sicpao which connotes a fishnet in Visayan due to abundance of fish in bodies of water such as in Dipolo River and Sicpao Creek. A variety of fish includes catfish, fargo and eels.

In 1941, distributions of land were accomplished. Distributions failed due to transpiration of Second World War where Japanese forces bombed areas of Davao. In 1946, peace was restored. Many of the residents returned to the area, where Cebuano, Boholano, Leyteno and Misamisnon acquired farmlands and stayed permanently.

Moreover, Barangay Lantawan and New Oroquieta were part of Sicpao and are now part of Baranagay Sominot, Zamboanga del Sur.

In 1948, Daniel C. Mantos which is the Father of Sicpao initiated a “Thanksgiving Feast”. This initiation was the first religious gathering of the barangay since there was no patron saint to give adoration and reverence.

In 1993, Barangay Council of Sicpao discussed about significant achievements of the Father of Sicpao. The council submitted a resolution and was voted. By acclamation, barangay Sicpao was changed to Barangay Daniel C. Mantos.
